MISE-EN-SCENE EXPLANATION

What is mise-en-scene and why is it important?

Mise-en-scene is the arrangement of visual elements in a film or video production, including the set design, lighting, costumes, and props. Planning the use of mise-en-scene in a Spanish Madrid music video can help to create a cohesive visual story that communicates the song's message and genre to the audience.
Mise-en-scene is an essential aspect of video production that can be used to create a visual narrative in a music video. Planning the use of mise-en-scene in a Spanish Madrid music video can help to create a cohesive visual story that communicates the song's message and genre to the audience. In this case, the use of religious Christian statues as a prop can link to the Spanish hip-hop genre in several ways.

What is the overall mood you want to evoke?
I am aiming to evoke a very urban mood, targetting a young audience in Madrid that can feel identified and recognize certain mise en scene elements such as the Mahou beer, the Christian religious figures, the well-known locations, Spanish bars, "kinky" working-class neighbourhoods, urban street style, well-known brands etc. The video has a very everyday simple vibe, which a young audience can see and feel comfortable watching. It is important for an audience to feel identified in a music video because it can create a sense of connection and resonance between the viewer and the music, the artist, or the message conveyed. When an audience member can see themselves or their experiences reflected in a music video, it can evoke emotions and a sense of shared understanding, which can be a powerful and meaningful experience. Identification in a music video can also create a sense of belonging or community among fans who share similar experiences or identities. This can strengthen fan loyalty and engagement with the artist and their work. Additionally, identification in a music video can serve as a form of representation for underrepresented groups (such as a teenage working-class niche audience in my video). When marginalized communities see themselves represented positively in media, it can challenge harmful stereotypes and promote greater social inclusivity and acceptance.
