HOW HAS THE RESEARCH INFORMED YOUR CREATIVE CHOICES?
For multiple shots of this music video, I was inspired by C. Tanaga's 'Tu Me Dejaste De Querer' music video. I imitated the establishing static shots around Madrid, to set the mood and tone of the music video and the urban aesthetic I aimed for.
I also took inspiration from Delaossa's 'Me Has Dejado' music video which was mainly shot in a square 'plaza', I tried finding a similar plaza and filmed in the plaza in Torrelodones with the Virgen Mary statue. Elements of the music video that link to the research of the codes and conventions of Spanish Hip Hop music videos that I did include the use of music sampling, as this son samples from an old Cuban song, cultural references to the working class neighbourhoods in Madrid where some shots where filmed which links to the audience demographic and target audience. Another feature was the urban city setting with lots of graffiti. Both actors also wore street fashion with baggy trousers, sneakers and windbreakers. There was the use of bright colours through the colour grading when editing and the bright daylight locations used. In other scenes, however, I used more low-key lighting to create a moody effect. Mainly, the video focused on the artist and the shots were mainly performative. Finally, the video also represented the Spanish identity and culture, through codes like the Mahou beer, the Virgin Mary statue and all of the famous spots filmed around Madrid which are easily recognizable to a Spanish audience. Regarding my Google Maps effect in my test shots, I ended up deciding not to use the effect as the filming days were already going to be difficult enough to film and I did not want to face further complications that could have looked bad in the final locations.

HOW DOES THE VIDEO CONFORM TO OR SUBVERT GENDER STEREOTYPES?

Although the two main characters in my video are male, the video features a diverse cast of characters with different body types, and nationalities, which promotes inclusivity and challenges the stereotype that there is only one "ideal" body type or gender expression.

The lyrics of the song "Reproches" also challenge gender stereotypes by addressing themes such as emotional vulnerability and self-expression. The lyrics suggest that it is acceptable for both men and women to express their emotions and vulnerabilities openly, which is a departure from traditional gender norms that often expect men to be stoic and emotionless. The stereotypical ideas are, therefore, used in a positive way.

DOES YOUR VIDEO FOLLOW NORMS SET BY DOMINANT CULTURAL HEGEMONY?

Cultural hegemony refers to the dominance of certain cultural values and beliefs over others, often reinforced by media and cultural institutions. The norms and values promoted by the dominant culture can affect the content of music videos, which can be used as a means of reinforcing or challenging those norms. In this case, my music video does follow the dominant ideology of Spanish culture which is being promoted through the codes and conventions and the mise en scene of the video such as props like the beer, religious statues and well-known locations.
